Joyce Newbery
The matriarch of the stables she started the Riding School in 1972 with only 6 ponies and 6 customers on the first Saturday, today the school has around 55 working horses and has over the years taught thousands of people to ride.
Jacky Newbery
Joyce’s daughter who has been involved in the school her entire life, between them every horse is hand picked with a lifetime of experience and knowledge.
Paul Hattrick
Jacky’s husband has had a steep learning curve into the horse business but is now firmly situated into every aspect of day to day life.
Today Jacky and Paul deal with the everyday running of the school with all the increasing paperwork and technology requirements but Joyce is still most definitely involved!
The family’s hobbies include showing ponies and breeding Dartmoors, over the years the breeding hobby has become its own business and Newoak Stud run along side Oaklands Riding School is one of the biggest Dartmoor studs in the country and has great success all across the country including wins at the famous Horse of the Year Show.
Oaklands Riding school and livery yard was established in 1971 and has always been a family run business.We pride ourselves in the quality and variety of our 50 riding school horses and treat each customer as an individual, catering for any specific needs.

Oaklands stables is set in the beautiful Devonshire countryside with the added advantage of being on the outskirts of Exeter.
